As with most of the things to do on Nusa Penida, you'll need to pay the 10,000 rupiah fee to park your bike. It took us roughly 15 minutes to reach the bottom, snapping some photos along the way. Related Diamond Beach If you were expecting a towering waterfall like those found in neighboring Bali, you might be a little disappointed. The Peguyangan Waterfall is definitely not that. However, Peguyangan Waterfall, which locals refer to as Mata Air Peguyangan, is actually not considered a "waterfall", but a sacred spring. You'll notice a shrine at the base, with a large pipe redirecting the flow of water down the steep cliff face. If you're lucky, you might get to meet some locals who've made the pilgrimage down to the site. Related Tembeling Beach Peguyangan Infinity Pool Besides the photo-worthy blue stairway, perhaps the most alluring aspect of Peguyangan Waterfall is the awesome infinity pool. You'll find this further on past the shrine. This pool is man-made and rests under an overhanging rock face. It's a great place to relax and cool off. On days with big swell, you can witness huge waves break and crash over the back of the pool. We relaxed in the pool for a good hour, monkeying around with a few local kids who seemed to enjoy playing with my camera. The hardest part of the day wasn't the climb back up, but trying to keep my DSLR dry! Where to Stay in Nusa Penida Nusa Penida isn't a huge island, but there are several options to pick from when choosing where to stay. Below I've included my 3 picks for budget, mid-range, and luxury accommodation. Luxury Adiwana Warnakali Resort - This isn't the most expensive luxury resort on Nusa Penida but it's definitely one of the best! This resort is waterfront located with large, luxury suites and an incredibly included breakfast. Mid-range Jukung Cottage - This epic, beachside resort-style cottage retreat offers great bang for buck. It features a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, a bar, and a shared lounge. Budget Hostel Bukit Sangcure - This is the accommodation I chose in Nusa Penida. It's a cheap backpacker hostel that is close to the port and offers breakfast and bike rentals. Travelfish says We would be hard pressed to call it a waterfall as during dry season when we visited it was barely a trickle so if you are expecting a dramatic cascade be prepared to be underwhelmed, however a holy shine, Pura Segara Kidul dedicated to the “Tri Murti”, the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva as well as to the mystical Queen of the Southern Ocean, Nyi Roro Kidul and the pools of aquamarine spring waters set a spectacular scene against the crashing waves and make the somewhat challenging climb down worth the effort. As this is considered a holy site by the Balinese, visitors are required to wear a sarong and sash which can be hired for 10,000 rupiah if you haven’t bought one. Photo Sally Arnold If you have visited Kelingking you will find this a mere doddle, and if not, it’s good training as it’s allegedly more than 700 steep ladder-like steps to the bottom of the 150 metre drop. The blue painted stairway is a combination of metal, wooden and cement paths and ladders, at times on top of older rusting or broken versions of the same which doesn’t really inspire confidence in the engineering or safety of the structure, and is definitely not for the fainthearted—leave kids and clumsy or less abled folk at the top. Some sections are very steep and narrow, but the stunning coastal views of the surf breaking onto the jagged coastline make a fine distraction. You will pass one or two rocks and trees dressed in traditional black and white poleng cloth shaded by temple umbrellas and adorned with offerings, a reminder of Balinese Hinduism’s connection to earlier ...
